1. “Tim Mcgraw”

At last, we finally get to the #1 pick for this first Taylor Swift era. For a debut, there could be only one winner for me and that was “Tim Mcgraw.” This was the music world’s introduction to Miss Taylor Swift and honestly, what a way to start off her long and illustrious career.

Honestly, I feel like there was no other song I could put in the first spot other than “Tim Mcgraw” for a few reasons. As I said, it was the first single and a lot of us remember hearing it and loving it. Secondly, this was Taylor’s country era and she referenced one of the biggest country music stars of all time Tim Mcgraw. She named a song after him and that’s just a power move.

Additionally, it gave us an idea of what the entire album would look like. She wrote about reminiscing on a relationship and hearing a song that made her think of that relationship and how she felt about that person. It’s such a sweet yet sad look at a past relationship that hasn’t worked out but knowing the two of you will always have that one song as a connection.

Sometimes, music videos don’t fit songs but the music video for “Tim Mcgraw” felt like it was perfect. It gave us a look back at their relationship and what Taylor and her ex are thinking and doing now. For this to be her first single and the song a lot of us associate with her, “Tim Mcgraw” was an amazing start to what has become a long career for Taylor.
