In years past, PlayStation‘s March games have been top-notch and top-tier. With how they’ve started 2023, it’s really hard to top that, and March’s games are definitely much more low-key.

March’s games were announced during Sony’s latest State of Play. Here are your free games for March for the PlayStation Plus Essential tier:

  • Battlefield 2042
  • Minecraft Dungeons
  • Code Vein

Battlefield 2042 has been something of a hot mess, although it has gotten better since its original release. It’s your standard FPS but doesn’t really line up with any of the prior games in the series, focusing on online multiplayer and not offering a single-player campaign. Since its third in-game season, it’s gotten better, giving you a feeling that’s closer to a standard Battlefield game, and giving some quality-of-life enhancements as well.

Minecraft Dungeons is your randomly-generated hack and slasher. Honestly, it’s Minecraft’s version of Diablo and it isn’t half-bad, especially if you’re looking to scratch that itch until Diablo IV comes out in June. You make your way through hoards of enemies in search of loot, and if that isn’t Diablo, I don’t know what is. It’s also much more fun with multiple players.

Last up is Code Vein, an open-world anime art style Soulslike RPG, which is a lot of different things to say in one sentence. It gives you a fun post-apocalyptic setting, a flexible class system to play with, and an AI partner to help you along the way. It takes some risks that they don’t always pay off, but it’s different enough that you’ll sink quite some time into it.

Also, if you’re in the Extra tier for PlayStation Plus, there’s a slew of new games coming at the end of March with more to be announced mid-month. Highlights include a new indie game coming straight to the service, Tchia, and plenty of big headline names like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Ghostwire Tokyo, Rainbow Six Extraction, and Immortals: Fenyx Rising.
