As a reader, there is something about the feeling of trying a new romance author for the first time. You essentially go in, knowing nothing, and could find a new favorite.

While some people like to stick to their comfort zones, it’s nice to try something new every once in a while. That’s why I knew I wanted to make a post about some new-to-me authors I’d like to try in 2023.

Before getting into romance authors, I’d like to make it clear this is not a recommendation post. These are just some authors I’d like to try out in 2023 and hopefully, they end up working for me.

If you don’t like these authors or their books, that’s fine but for me, these are six romance authors who are on my radar for 2023.

These six new-to-me romance authors are on my TBR list for 2023.

As I said, these are all romance authors I’ve heard of before but have yet to read their books. If you have any recommendations, I’d love for you to leave them below. I know most of these are going to be popular authors so I’m sure there will be lots of thoughts and comments.

1. Scarlett St. Clair

The first romance author making my list is Scarlett St. Clair. Scarlett St. Clair is an incredibly popular fantasy romance author and 2023 is going to be my year of trying the genre. I’m not a huge fantasy reader, but I’m going to try some out in 2023. While she has a few series going on, I feel like Adrian X Isolde sounds like it’s going to be something I’ll enjoy.

I know this is a vampire romance and it sounds like it has enemies-to-lovers vibes. Either way, I am excited to give this author a try and see if her writing is for me.

2. Claire Legrand

Speaking of fantasy romances, I’m going to be giving Claire Legrand a try in 2023. While she’s most known for her YA stories, she has a fantasy romance coming out this spring. Entitled A Crown of Ivy and Glass, this one seems like it’s going to be equal parts action-packed and sexy which are honestly all I’m looking for when it comes to fantasy romance.

I want the plot to be fast-paced and I want the romance to make me swoon. I know Claire Legrand is an extremely beloved author already so I’m crossing my fingers.

3. Falon Ballard

Moving into the contemporary realm, one romance author I’ve been hearing a lot of hype about is Falon Ballard. She actually released her debut book in 2022 which was Lease on Love. I feel like I heard a lot of good things about this book as 2022 came to an end so I wanted to eventually try out her books and see if they work for me.

Right now, she only has Lease on Love but I know she has a new release coming out this year so I’m excited to see if her books are as incredible as I’ve heard they are.

4. Lee Jacquot

As someone who reads a lot of books and also talks about books a lot, I’m always on the hunt for new romance authors. One author I’ve seen popping up, again and again, is Lee Jacquot. She’s known for her steamy holiday novellas which are all buzzwords for me. Even though I’m pretty sure she hasn’t been publishing that long, she has a pretty extensive backlist so I’m excited to check her out this year.

5. Chloe Gong

This is the one I’m most nervous about for a few reasons. I know that These Violent Delights is Chloe Gong’s first book. It’s also a fantasy retelling of Romeo & Juliet, but it’s also a young adult which I don’t always love. However, I’ve been thinking about giving her a try and seeing if her books/writing will work for me. Frankly, I’m more excited about Foul Lady Fortune but we’ll see which one I end up starting with.

6. Xio Axelrod

When I saw the cover for The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes, I was intrigued but I didn’t pick it up in 2022 so I’m going to rectify that this year. I know that Xio Axelrod is a musician and her book is a romance but it also features a girl band. Either way, this book sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a second book in the series.

All in all, there are tons of great romance authors out there but these are some I’m excited to try out in 2023. As I said, if you have recommendations for them, I’d love for you to share them below as I’m not really sure. I’d love to know if there are any romance authors you’re looking to try out in 2023 as well.
