In 2022, a lot of TV shows made a mark on pop culture but none more so than Abbott Elementary. With Season 2 currently premiering on ABC, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be attending.

As random as it might seem, Abbott Elementary is one of those shows where you can enjoy it no matter who you are. The series follows a group of teachers, the principal, and the janitor as they try to navigate Abbott Elementary.

With the series being set in Philadelphia, there are many struggles teachers can relate to including lack of supplies, outdated materials, and even, the building falling apart. It’s sadly relatable yet part of the reason why the show has remained so popular.

Abbott Elementary was one of the best shows and Season 1 is exactly what you need this weekend.

Abbott Elementary is the ideal watch if you like joy or have a free weekend.

If you haven’t watched or even seen clips from Abbott Elementary, the series was created by Quinta Brunson of Buzzfeed fame. She stars as one of the teachers, Janine Teagues who is a new teacher, looking to make all of these changes and make things a bit brighter. She is joined by Chris Perfetti as Jacob and Tyler James Williams as Gregory who are all trying to get their footing.

The cast is rounded out by Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara who plays the two “older” teachers, just making the best of what they have. Then you have Janelle James as Ava, the principal, and William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson, the janitor. This group comes together beautifully to make such an amazing ensemble cast.

The main reason why this is perfect for the weekend is that you’ll get emersed in the story and these characters so you won’t want to stop. Me, I personally loved the juxtaposition of Janine and Barbara. Those two have the funniest yet most loving relationship. Plus in Season 1, we get the makings of a romance and boy is it a good one.

The writing on the show is just out-of-this-world. It all comes back to Quinta who is one of the writers for the series, too. It’s clear how much Quinta loves this show and how much it means to her which you tell as you watch it.

Abbott Elementary is such a fun and fresh series with lots of great characters and humor. On the whole, though, the show will make you think and also make you appreciate all of the teachers
you have in your life. If this one isn’t on your watchlist for 2023, then you need to fix that.

One final point and some honesty about Abbott Elementary is that it’s already award-winning including the 3 Golden Globe Awards and multiple Emmy Awards. If you needed another reason to watch this show, let the awards tell you everything.
