Is there mail delivery today, January 2? (2023)
By Cody Schultz
Trying to figure out if there is mail on a holiday can be a frustrating experience. On a normal day, checking for mail is a simple task that most people do without thinking. But on a holiday, the routine changes and it’s not always clear if the mail will be delivered or not… especially when a holiday falls on the weekend.
This year, New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday which is a day when there is normally no mail delivery. Because the holiday falls on a Sunday, many businesses will be observing New Year’s Day on Jan. 2, giving their employees the day off to spend with family.
It also creates some confusion as to whether the postal service is among those who will be taking Jan. 2 off or if they’ll be operating during their normal hours on Monday.
Is there mail today? (January 2, 2023)
There will be no mail delivered to homes and businesses across the country on Jan. 2, 2023. On New Year’s Day, the United States Postal Service does not deliver mail because it is a federal holiday. However, because New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday and there is no mail on Sunday, the holiday will be observed on Jan. 2 this year.
As a result, this means that any mail that is supposed to be delivered on Jan. 2 will be delayed until the next business day. This includes regular mail, packages, and any mail that is being sent via express or priority shipping.
While it may be inconvenient for some people to not receive mail on New Year’s Day, it is important to remember that the USPS employees work hard throughout the year to deliver our mail and packages. Allowing them a day off on a holiday like New Year’s Day is a small way to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
