Are banks open today? (Jan. 2, 2023)

It’s crazy to think that a new year has officially begun, but alas 2023 is here and for many of us that means getting to start the new year off with an extended holiday weekend. With New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday, many will have Monday, Jan. 2 off as well, giving them some extra time to recharge and take care of any errands before returning to work.

With New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday, it can also make it interesting to know what businesses will be closed on Jan. 1 and which will observe the holiday on Jan. 2 as well.

Many stores and restaurants will be open on Jan. 2, but what about government-run businesses such as the postal service and banks? If you’re in need of heading out to the bank on Monday, will you be greeted by your local bankers or a closed sign?

Are banks closed on Jan. 2, 2023?

As New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, many banks will be closed both on Jan. 1 and on Jan. 2 due to the national holiday. This means that customers will not be able to access their accounts or conduct any banking transactions.

ATMs may still be operational, but it is important for customers to plan ahead and withdraw any necessary cash before the holiday. It is also important for customers to keep in mind that any transactions made on the day of the holiday may not be processed until the next business day.

While the bank being closed may be inconvenient for some, the good news is that banks will reopen on Jan. 3, 2023.
