Since Bridgerton’s first season, the series has centered on the Bridgerton family above all, but certain siblings are taking the spotlight more than others. Daphne is the center of season one, as her love story with the Duke plays out, eventually resulting in their marriage and child. However, Daphne was not the only Bridgerton sibling at the center of attention.

Anthony also played a significant role, as did Colin and Eloise. Benedict came off as a more supporting role, with season three even going out of the book’s order to focus on Colin’s love story rather than Benedict’s. That choice highlights Bridgerton’s weakness in a series of many strengths.

Hyacinth, Francesca, and Gregory Bridgerton are background characters who are barely present. In Francesca’s case, she hardly appears at all.

The show and book’s premise of following each sibling’s love story works well to develop characters and have a central focus. However, based on the events of seasons one and two, the show may as well develop Eloise’s love story in season four, once again skipping Benedict’s part, given how little focus he receives compared to his siblings.

The idea that the show believes it can skip Benedict’s love story, so simple as to replace it with Colin’s, is a moment that shows how perhaps Benedict is not gaining storylines that keep him as exciting, even if Colin and Penelope’s relationship has been a significant subplot since season one.

However, as much as Bridgerton could use more of Benedict to make him more exciting leading up to his eventual love story season, the series also has a lot of work to do for Francesca, Hyacinth, and Gregory.

While Hyacinth and Gregory are still children, it makes sense that they are not as involved in the romantic storylines, as it is far too early for them. However, Bridgerton could find ways to incorporate the younger siblings so that if Netflix continues to renew Bridgerton, the audience will have a more solid understanding of who these children will grow into as teenagers or young adults.

In seasons one and two, they acknowledge the size of the Bridgerton family and portray the older siblings’ roles and responsibilities toward the young.

As for Francesca, if you are not paying close attention to the early moments of each season, she may not even be there at all. She is also barely referenced, giving the wrong conclusion that her character does not exist in the first place.

Season three has to do better with her, incorporating her into the story and giving Francesca a strong and well-defined personality to ensure that she will not be forgotten again.

Bridgerton has been successful in its formula, but developing the other siblings more could see the groundwork for future seasons.
