When most people think of holiday books, Kwanzaa doesn’t come to mind. Even so, Kwanzaa Angel by Shirley Hailstock is a delightful holiday romance.

In December thus far, I’ve featured a Christmas romance, a multi-holiday anthology, and now, a Kwanzaa romance. While it’s taken me a bit of research and time to find these romance books, this has been a lot of fun.

For the most part, Kwanzaa is left behind in conversations about the holidays. Unless you know someone who celebrates, it’s unlikely you’ll hear about the holiday but if you decide to pick up Kwanzaa Angel, you’ll end up learning a lot more than you originally thought.

If you’re looking for a unique holiday romance, then Kwanzaa Angel should fit the bill.

This week’s #TBRTrending pick is Kwanzaa Angel by Shirley Hailstock.

Let me start off by saying that if you’re looking for a long book, then this one is not it. It’s a novella-length story and it’s just over 100 pages. Essentially if you’re looking for something short and sweet to help bolster your Goodreads goal, then this is a good choice especially if you’re subscribed to Kindle Unlimited.

Let’s get into the book, though. This is a romance between Erin, a successful store owner, and Raimi, a ghost from her past. The two run into each other again and he actually doesn’t recognize her at first. Unbeknownst to him, she’s the girl he left at prom and embarrassed for years to come including when they meet again.

The book is labeled as a romance and it is, but it’s also incredibly informative on Kwanzaa, the traditions associated with the holiday, and how people celebrate. As someone who knew virtually nothing about Kwanzaa, it was such a nice change of pace to see characters celebrating something other than Christmas. Since it’s so short, I don’t want to give much more away but it’s a lot of fun and might end up surprising you.
