PlayStation Plus always likes to end the year with a bang, and 2022 is no different! December’s free games were leaked early, but only by a few hours, so the anticipation wasn’t too terrible.

Below are your free games for the month of December for the Essential tier:

  • Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition
  • Biomutant

Breaking down the December benefits for Playstation Plus

First up is Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition. It’s a brand-new game launching for free on PlayStation Plus! It’s a third-person platformer/brawler from developer Red Beard Games. Set in a stylized world of gods and mythology, it combines physics-based combat with intense action, easy abilities, and unique battlegrounds.

Next up is the biggest one of the month, Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Released in 2021, this is all three of the Mass Effect games have been remastered with visual enhancements, technical improvements, and quality-of-life adjustments. The Mass Effect series is known as one of the best RPGs of all time.

If you have yet to dig into the Mass Effect games, now may be the time. They are a trio of sci-fi RPGs from BioWare that follow the story of Commander Shepard as he and his crew embark on different galaxy-ending adventures. Honestly, if you aren’t a PlayStation Plus member and you want to play these games, this is the time to join. It’s three games in one. It’ll take up plenty of your time.

Lastly, we have Biomutant, another RPG that mixes melee, shooting, and mutant abilities in an open-world, post-apocalyptic setting. It’s your choice of which tribe to choose and whether you’re out to save this dying world or destroy it. There’s a lot of customization to your character and their abilities throughout, changing up your melee weapons, guns, and more.

Unfortunately, Biomutant feels relatively repetitive when it comes to its puzzles and objectives despite having some really fun building blocks and creative spins. But it’s a free game, and if you’re not sold on Mass Effect, you can give it a download.
