Is the post office closed on Veterans Day? (2022)

It seems like we were just celebrating Halloween, and suddenly the latest holiday in the calendar year has arrived with Veterans Day falling on Friday, Nov. 11.

The federal holiday is designed to celebrate those who have served in the military with services and celebrations scheduled to take place across the US. Because Veterans Day is a federal holiday, this also means a three-day weekend for many individuals.

It also means that many businesses will be closing for the holiday, including many federally operated businesses such as banks. But does the holiday also affect the United States Postal Service and mail delivery?

Is the post office closed on Nov. 11 for Veterans Day?

The post office will indeed be closed on Nov. 11, 2022, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. Veterans Day is one of a handful of holidays observed by the USPS and on these federal holidays, the post office closes its doors. If you need to mail a letter or package this week, our recommendation would be to make sure you take care of doing so before Friday or after the holiday on Friday.

Is there mail on Veterans Day?

No need to head out to your mailbox on Friday. Due to the Veterans Day holiday, there will be no mail delivery on Nov. 11. As such, you shouldn’t expect any mail to be delivered to you via the USPS on Veterans Day as the post office will not be open and therefore postal workers will not be making their normal routes to deliver mail on the holiday.

Now, if you’re expecting a package through FedEx, UPS, or Amazon Delivery, you still will want to keep an eye out as package delivery through the three providers is still slated to run on the holiday.

Is USPS closed on Veterans Day?

United States Postal Service branches across the United States will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 for the Veterans Day holiday. As a result, you will not be able to take care of your shipping needs at USPS branch locations on Friday — in order words, save yourself a trip if you were preparing to head out to ship a package at a USPS branch as they will not be open on Nov. 11.
