La Brea: What Secrets Get Revealed In “The Fog?”
Throughout “The Fog,” several massive secrets come to light as the survivors in 10,000 B.C must fight to survive an angry pack of wolves after a threat from the villagers is cut short.
One of the episode’s powerful secrets comes from Izzy’s guilt surrounding Eve and Gavin’s separation. Since Eve and Gavin never told Izzy and Josh about all their problems, Izzy believed that her leg injury was the cause of the issues and eventual separation her parents went through. Naturally, such a reveal is devastating for Eve to discover. However, Izzy’s injury was never the cause of Eve and Gavin’s problems, and knowing Izzy believed it so much meant Eve revealing another big secret.
Eve tells Izzy about her affair with Levi and the feelings she continues to have for him. It adds another layer of complication, especially as while Gavin knows some of it, he does not know everything, and Eve must eventually tell him the whole truth.
Meanwhile, Scott’s secrets come to a head when he needs to include Gavin in Aldridge’s plans to get into the mysterious building. However, due to the villagers attacking the clearing and the fog encompassing the land, they never actually get there. Gavin, Aldridge, and Scott returning to help their friends result in Aldridge saving Gavin’s life, sacrificing herself in the process.
Sadly, Aldridge does not survive the attack but leaves Gavin with one last tease about him ending up exactly where he needs to and revealing his mother’s name is Caroline.
Veronica and Ella finally have a heart-to-heart when Ella helps Veronica through a panic attack. But that also leads to revelation as well. Veronica admits that she had pointed Ella out when they were kids, which resulted in her kidnapping. But Ella forgives Veronica anyway. Their bond is more vital than Veronica’s decision as a child.
Elsewhere in the clearing, Ty spends the time walking around with another miraculous survivor of the La Brea sinkhole, a former client Ty had worked with. But, it may not be as hopeful as he once thought. Ty’s wandering eventually leads him to be found by Paara, and she informs Ty that he has been alone and speaking to himself.
Ty’s hallucination was proof of his condition worsening, but the experience also allowed Ty to confront his previous mistakes. Ty had never put his wife first, which is something he wants to rectify in his relationship with Paara. Ty wants to put Paara first and choose her despite the uncertainty of how much longer he has to live.
However, Josh and Riley discover a tremendous revelation in 1988 as well. Riley agrees to speak to Dr. Clark on Franklin’s behalf as she has shut him down previously. However, even with the pictures Riley uses from Josh’s phone, Dr. Clark does not believe Riley, and the suggestion of a giant sinkhole hitting 1988 where it had not before continues to strike fear into Riley, as it could mean the younger counterpart to her father may die.
But, when Riley is offered the chance by Dr. Clark’s assistant to discuss the matter further, she and Josh are brought to Dr. Clark herself. Dr. Clark’s suspicion of Josh and Riley accidentally reveals that there is a man named James who wishes to shut down Dr. Clark’s work. The conversation also mentions bringing Isaiah to 1988 and their confrontation with Silas, which leads to another discovery that Dr. Clark is Isaiah’s mother and Josh’s grandmother.
Such reveals throughout “The Fog” will have momentous consequences moving forward. Knowing about the capabilities of the mysterious building, including its involvement with time travel, could help the La Brea survivors bring Josh and Riley back and then help everyone return home.
