Is school closed tomorrow? (Oct. 10, 2022)
By Cody Schultz
Columbus Day Weekend has arrived which for many means a day off work and an extended 3-day weekend to get a bit of relaxation in during the long weekend. But what exactly does the holiday’s arrival mean for the little ones in our lives still in school?
As many schools begin their new school year in late August, school is in session for the year meaning students across the US are currently attending classes throughout the week. This can make it difficult to know if students get the day off from school similar to how many get the day off from work.
So what exactly does the Columbus Day holiday mean for students? Will there still be school on Monday, Oct. 10? Or are schools closed on Columbus Day in observance of the holiday?
Is school open on Columbus Day 2022?
As Columbus Day is recognized as a federal holiday, most federal buildings such as the post office, banks and DMV will be closed for the holiday; however, not all schools will be closing their doors on Monday for the holiday. This is because Columbus Day is a holiday that not every school district recognizes which means schools in certain states might have the day off, while others will still have class as usual.
If you’re uncertain of whether your school district is one that will recognize the holiday, our recommendation would be to visit your school’s official website. There, you should be able to view the school’s holiday calendar which will confirm whether or not there will be classes on Monday.
You can also often find closing information on social media accounts for your school district as many school districts are on Twitter and Facebook.
