How Piper CJ is making the most of a second chance
If there’s one thing to be said about being an author, it isn’t easy. Just look at Piper CJ for instance.
You might be shocked if you go on Goodreads and look at reviews for her book. The reviews are surprising as both a debut book and a new release. It’s a bit of a mess as it pertains to the author and the books as a whole, to say the least.
However, things are starting to look up, though. Most notably, Piper CJ has recently had her series acquired by Bloom Books. As most readers know, Bloom Books is an imprint of Sourcebooks and it’s essentially a way to celebrate both lesser-known authors and indie authors, getting a chance at being traditionally published.
The acquisition of Piper CJ’s book series could be a turning point for both the author and her series as a whole.
Bloom Books is giving Piper CJ the chance to find the right readers.
As previously mentioned, Piper CJ’s first book The Night and Its Moon quickly became a sensation among indie readers. Then things started to get a bit rocky for her due to some outside inference and readers are rightfully apprehensive when approaching her and her book as she’s now under the Bloom Books umbrella.
While I can’t sit here and change everyone’s mind, it does feel like this second chance is going to be good for multiple reasons. Firstly, The Night and Its Moon got an entirely new and fresh set of eyes on it including a sensitivity read and revised editorial from Jada Johnson and Christa Desir. While she knew that the book needed a bit more TLC, she didn’t give up on it, and thus, the book was released on September 20th, 2022. Plus it even has a beautiful Barnes & Noble edition which isn’t always easy to get.
Another reason is that things seemed to have died down with the past drama and now she’s more equipped to handle anything thrown her way. In particular, Bloom decided to go all in, especially regarding marketing and ensuring the story reached as many fantasy lovers as possible. Honestly, the tides seem like they have turned for Piper CJ.
To pitch the book simply, The Night and Its Moon are about “Two orphans grow into powerful young women as they face countless threats to find their way back to each other.” The book is definitely making the rounds as it’s toted as “a bi fantasy” as evidenced by Piper CJ’s website and it also features a sapphic romance.
Even though the first book is out now, the next book is set to be released in February 2023 and was originally a six-book series so we’ll see what happens. Either way now might be the ideal time for you to check out this new fantasy book. However if you’re able to move past the drama, then another book within the Bloom Books catalog could end up being a new favorite for you.
