It’s the penultimate episode of Roswell, New Mexico‘s four-season run, and with it, a storm of epic proportions and a villain with untamed powers. Not only is the pocket world falling apart with so many people in this alternate world of Roswell in the 1940s, but Liz is dealing with memory problems after her alien mist overdose.

Our people are in trouble and there is literally no time left for a satisfactory resolution to the story. Here’s the thing about The CW canceling Roswell when they did…the fourth season was already filmed and ready to air. It wasn’t like they knew ahead of time that this was the end. So how do we know that this is how the story was supposed to conclude?

While we absolutely got more of the story than I thought we might when the series first premiered, I am still saddened by the fact that at this point it looks like the relationships we have watched build and grow won’t get the conclusions we would have hoped for.

Now don’t get me wrong, Roswell often leaves us with a concluded story arc at the end of every season, but they also give us a tease to keep us coming back for more too. And in this case, it just feels like there is so much more to this story.

In “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” we see the toll that this pocket world has had on Alex and it means life or death for him to get home to their Roswell. Liz is not her normal, brilliant self and while this would be great to explore in a whole new season, we aren’t going to get that. Max is still coming to terms with who he is and what he can do and even with Teska sacrificing herself to help him embrace his gifts, there is still so much he needs to do to be the hero of this story.

Every single one of these characters is still on a journey of discovery and growth and this episode proved that once again. The fact that it ended with Clyde holding almost every single one of our people hostage on the other side of the gate (minus Isobel and Max) just leaves us with so many worries over who will make it out the other side when the finale brings this story to a conclusion.

After this episode of Roswell, I have never wanted a TV movie more. I want to see this story given a proper finale and not the ending that the fourth season is giving us. We want to see what happens next for Bonnie, Dallas, Kyle, Michael, Alex, and every single one of the aliens and friends who we have met over the last four seasons.

This was in many ways a brilliant episode but it was also a very bittersweet one to watch. We literally only have one more episode left and we are not okay.
