When it comes to Shazam! we already know that we are getting a character who is really a child at heart. After all, Billy is in fact a kid. But when he says that magic word, Shazam, he becomes an adult superhero.

Even though his entire adopted family also got the same powers that he did, that does not change the fact that these are still children with super powers. And just because they were able to save the day last time, that does not mean that they have truly grown up just yet. So it makes sense that the new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods would give us these moments of Billy not having a clue what he is doing. After all, he understands he is still a kid and that he doesn’t really know what to do.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is kids learning about who they are now

In this trailer for the second movie, we get exactly what we would hope to see from a superhero movie about kids getting powers. They have no idea what they’re doing, they do not know how to work as a group, and of course, there are adults that don’t want them to have their powers. And that is exactly what we get in this trailer, kids that are a mess and adults that want all the power. Of course, those aren’t just regular adults, they happen to be gods.

Perhaps the greatest moment of this trailer, is when Billy is confronting one of the gods that want what they consider to be their powers back and calls for his family, only for them not to show up. It’s the kind of moment we expect from a group that has yet to figure out who they are, both as individuals and as a superhero team.

Then again, we can’t help but love the fact that we get to see Billy going up against a dragon in the streets. And even Billy knows that this is cool. Of course, the fact that he is fighting a dragon is probably not a great thing. And it will probably cause a lot of destruction as he tries to stop even more destruction, so it’s going to be a mess.

While the first movie put an emphasis on Billy getting his powers, this movie is all about the entire family. And that makes sense since everyone got their powers at the end of the first movie and didn’t really have time to explore their own gifts. It also makes sense that they would not be working well as a group just yet, because it takes time to become a superhero team. And it is something that even adults struggle with (looking at you Justice League).

Once again it is up to Shazam and the Shazam family to save the day. But in this case, it is also about them protecting each other and their powers from gods who want them. Especially since we do not know why these gods want these powers… But we can’t imagine it would be for anything good. And of course, there is that whole dragon in the streets thing. That can’t be a good thing either.
