Beyoncé stood up for body positivity in ‘Austin Powers’
Whether it is for her music, popularity, or both, Beyoncé is always making a statement. Now, in a recent interview with Vulture, it is revealed by makeup artist Kate Biscoe that the star stood up for body positivity during her Austin Powers movie role. Beyoncé played Foxxy Cleopatra in the 2002 comedy. Although already a star at the time due to her success with Destiny’s Child, Biscoe reveals that Beyoncé asked for the movie poster to be redone due to the altering her body.

Austin Powers in Goldmember came early in Beyoncé’s movie career. However, the star was not afraid of speaking out against the movie poster that showed an altered version of her body. According to Biscoe, Beyoncé said about the movie poster, “You made me too skinny. It’s not me” and did an hourglass shape when describing the issue. Then a member of the film’s production team said, “Okay, we’ll fix that”. After the conversation, Biscoe asked the member, “Is that the first time that you’ve ever had an actress ask to make her body bigger?” and he responded, “Yes. It’s going to cost me thousands of dollars, but I am going to do it.’
It has been something the star has focused on throughout her career. She said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, “In the past, I spent too much time on diets, with the misconception that self-care meant exercising and being overly conscious of my body’. It was also a focus point of the Destiny’s Child song”Bootylicious” that she wrote after being criticized for gaining weight at only 19 years old.
Austin Powers in Goldmember was the third installment in the Austin Powers franchise and Beyoncé’s second movie role. The star first got her start in acting in the made-for-TV movie, Carmen: A Hip-Hopera, in 2001.
