Is the Post Office closed on Juneteenth?

In 2021, Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday following Congress’s passing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act in June 2021. The act was then passed as a bill by the Sentate allowing President Joe Biden to sign the bill into law on June 17 – two days before Juneteenth, 2021.

As the youngest in a list of federal holidays, there is understandable uncertainty among many regarding which businesses will close their doors for the holiday and which will operate during normal business hours as they do for other holidays such as Easter or Memorial Day.

Among the questions many seem to have is whether there will be mail delivery on June 20, 2022, or if there will be no mail coming on Monday due to the holiday.

Because Juneteenth is a federal holiday, the U.S. Postal Service will not be open on Monday, June 20, 2022, as the post office does not do business on federal holidays. As such, local U.S. Postal Service branches will be closed for the day in observance of the holiday.
