First look at Disney+’s live action Pinocchio

It’s bound to come true when you wish for something hard enough and on magical stars.

Disney Studios released the first look trailer for the Disney+ upcoming live-action remake, Pinocchio, which holds a magical introduction and a peek at the Blue Fairy, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo.  The woodcarver and clockmaker Gepetto (Tom Hanks) unknowingly invites her in by wishing upon a star.

While Jiminy Cricket’s version of “When You Wish Upon a Star” will always remain an iconic treasure,  Erivo’s take of the classic Disney tune is spine-tingling and creates a melodic atmosphere that gives the visuals and characters more depth.

As the trailer streams, we get peeks of Jiminy Cricket voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Figaro the Kitten, the Coachman (Luke Evans), “Honest” John (Keegan-Michael Key), Senor Stromboli (Giuseppe Battiston) new character Sophia the Seagull (Lorraine Bracco), and Lampwick (Lewin Lloyd).  If that is not enough, a key sequence from the 1940 Pinocchio is highlighted: Geppetto searching high and low for his wooden son while holding Cleo the Goldfish amidst a storm.

Finally, the Blue Fairy is fully revealed in her shimmering gown, granting Gepetto’s deepest wish with only a quick glimpse of Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth).

Pinocchio is directed by Robert Zemeckis, who in the past directed Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, and Castaway, which Tom Hanks also headlined.  The film is also an inspiration for the 1940 animated feature that grabbed Academy Award nominations and won for Best Original Song and Score.

Lastly, aside from being given this amazing trailer, Disney also released the premiere date for the film.  Pinocchio will be available to stream on September 8th to kick off Disney+ Day.  The premiere is also one day before the D23 Expo in Anaheim.
