Pretty Smart has officially been canceled by Netflix, confirming that audiences will not be getting answers to the cliffhangers season one had left remaining.

The Netflix original comedy has been on the receiving end of less than favorable reviews from critics. The series had followed Chelsea on her journey from up-tight and professional to discovering a more laid-back lifestyle with the help of her sister, Claire, romantic prospect Grant, and her sister’s other close friends and roommates, Solana and Jayden.

The series attempted to use a found or chosen family formula. Unfortunately, the group never quite managed to find the right recipe to work the way the series relied on it to become. The cancelation also means that Pretty Smart will not be able to answer questions hanging at the conclusion of its season.

“I Mean…Just Watch!” needed fans invested in its final moments, but the finale never entirely earns the moment it needs to push the story forward. The love triangle between Chelsea, Grant, and Claire never feels as convincing as it needs to as the first season comes to an end. Without a second season, the final moments between Chelsea, Grant, and Claire will never gain results.

Still, Pretty Smart was also dedicated to telling the story of Chelsea and Claire regaining a sense of sisterhood they had lost in the past. They had clear and noticeable differences in how they looked at life, and their reunion allowed Chelsea and Claire to rub off on each other, which helped the other grow.

Sadly, the continuation of their bonding and growth has been forced to end. However, Chelsea, at least, had started to understand there are different ways to look at success and happiness than she had always defined it, which certainly could be a decent message for the series to conclude on.
