Legacies: The battle between Hope and Hope’s humanity
How close is Legacies to recovering Hope’s humanity? As of “The Only Way Out Is Through,” closer than ever. Hope spent the episode split between two major conflicts. One included the remaining Super Squad members as the group went through various probabilities of how a war with the Gods could end. The other was an inner conflict Hope was facing against her humanity.
Hope’s humanity has been making unwanted appearances in No-Humanity Hope’s life, appearing in dreams and as a figment that only Hope can see. However, Hope’s humanity may be more valuable than Hope is giving her credit for, as the only way to defeat the Gods is with all of Hope’s emotions activated.
As the Super Squad test different variations of how to defeat their opponent, they consistently lose, almost as if they have lost before the game has even started. So, what is the problem? At first, it seems that Lizzie’s allegiance is the most significant factor. As a Heretic, Lizzie can siphon power, which gives her an advantage no one else has. But, once figuring that out, it seems that once Lizzie is on their side, the Super Squad may win. Except although Lizzie is essential, the group still loses.
Although the puzzle pieces are beginning to reveal themselves, the group is still failing. Hope tries several things in her strive to attack first, mostly suggesting the other Super Squad members throw themselves into danger while Hope stays in the background to protect herself. But, when every version of that fails, Hope has no choice but to listen to her humanity’s ideas.
So, choosing to do things differently, Hope suggests that they test the probability of how things were to play out if Hope’s humanity was on. The difference is clear. Knowing how Hope would act with her emotions, Hope makes decisions such as taking the most considerable damages, knowing she can take the hits her friends could not.
Hope’s humanity has always strived to protect her friends, which is how she makes decisions in the last round. However, it also encourages her friends to help take hits as she gives them the strength and courage to continue. Finally, they succeed, with the Gods retreating rather than ending in a massive blood bath. It is the group’s only victory.
However, Hope still has one last fight as her humanity seems even closer to breaking through the surface and taking over. Hope is desperate to prevent it from happening, leaving her humanity still buried even if it is closer to reaching the final trigger needed to take over completely.
No matter how solid the Super Squad’s plan might be by the game’s conclusion, there is still a suggestion that someone may die. However, there is also something to be said that the Super Squad does not have all the information, such as that Lizzie’s allegiance may be harder to sway than anticipated.
No one is aware of Lizzie and Aurora’s binding agreement. If Lizzie does anything Aurora considers a betrayal, Lizzie will die. So, what does that mean for the Super Squad’s plan?
Hope’s fight against her humanity will continue as her family confronts her. Will a reunion with the remaining Mikaelsons be the final catalyst that brings back Hope’s humanity? Although Hope seems determined to fight against her humanity, Hope’s humanity is stubborn, and she has to find a way to break through eventually.
