Emma Watson

While we may know Emma Watson thanks to her iconic role as Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter movies, she is so much more than an actress. In fact, we would have to say that it is not just her acting abilities that are making her one of our women making history right now.

Instead, we have to look to her work as a women’s rights activist (on top of her work to push more sustainable fashion choices). In particular, it is hard to forget the fact that Watson was at one point an ambassador to the United Nations (UN) who used this position to launch a campaign for the UN called HeForShe, which is an ongoing initiative for gender equality. The idea behind this push is that gender inequality can have ramifications across all areas of life, politically, economically, and even socially.

But the HeForShe initiative is not the only thing that Emma Watson has had a hand in kickstarting. She is also credited with launching the United Kingdom’s branch of the Time’s Up movement.

Yet, that’s only the start of her work to promote women’s rights, gender equality, and even sustainability in the fashion industry. And she does all of this while still working in the entertainment industry, both as an actress and a model (stepping in as the face of brands such as Lancome and Burberry).
