Jacinda Ardern

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us were looking to our leaders to guide us in how to handle this widespread health crisis. And while it feels like there were many failures across the board, one political leader who handled things differently was Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

As Prime Minister, Ardern decided to take a hard approach to the pandemic. That meant that she set very strict guidelines for her country, including restricting people coming into her country. Her strict measures have been hailed as highly effective as she was able to virtually eliminate the virus from New Zealand.

Her handling of the pandemic has been widely praised and led to her re-election in 2020. And of course, the way she handled the pandemic is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Jacinda Ardren. In fact, I have to admit that learning she was the “youngest female Prime Minister since 1856” in New Zealand at the time of her initial election in 2017 just added to her overall impression of being a woman making history.

Basically, she put her people first and in doing so she made an impact that has left her as a shining example of what a leader should be when it comes to caring for their people. And yes, that makes her one of our women who are making history right now.
