Riverdale kicked off its sixth season with a bang in its multi-episode crossover Rivervale event that saw Archie and the gang living in an alternate timeline where multiple people disappeared, died, and met untimely ends until Riverdale’s narrator and author Jughead Jones, put the timelines back together.

As a result, Archie and Betty are back where we left them way back in the season five finale–reunited and facing Hiram Lodge’s last attack on Riverdale in the form of a disastrous bomb on Archie’s home.

If it were any other show, we’d fear for Archie and Betty’s survival, but it’s more likely the bomb will spark a larger mystery for the season to come. Per IMDB, the official synopsis for this week’s midseason premiere, “Chapter One Hundred and One: UNBELIEVABLE”, reads:

"As news begins to spread about the bombing at the Andrew’s [sic] home, Archie, Betty and Jughead begin to deal with mysterious side effects from the explosion. Elsewhere, Veronica spirals after learning that Hiram may have been involved, and Cheryl is consumed with guilt when she believes she may have had a hand in the explosion."

Based on the synopsis, it’s clear that the midseason premiere will largely deal with the immediate aftermath of the explosion. An official preview for the rest of the season hints at what else is in store.

The preview shows the return of a few familiar faces including Glen and Penelope, with what looks like a Bravo camera crew in tow. With the shift to Sunday nights, Riverdale seems to be signaling a further shift into a more adult era for the series. As always, you’ll have to tune in to find out what happens next.
