Wonka release date pushed back to December 2023
The chocolate factory will remain closed for now. The highly anticipated film Wonka will debut on December 15, 2023. It was previously slated for a March 17, 2023 release date. The Timothée Chalamet led film has been a victim of many COVID-19 related production delays. However, its new release date allows it to debut a week before Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and a currently untitled Star Trek movie (perfect for the holiday season).

Wonka takes you back to the days before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The characters from the 1964 Roald Dahl children’s novel have been popular for years and have transcended across many ages. The film is also set to star Rowan Atkinson, Matthew Baynton, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Sally Hawkins, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar, and Ellie White.
Other projects that have faced delays are The Flash, Lost Kingdom, and Aquaman. But, if you’re craving anything related to the chocolate factory, you can always go back to previous adaptations during the wait. The original film premiered in 1971 with Gene Wilder in the title role. It premiered under the title Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In 2005, Tim Burton adapted the story with Johnny Depp in the title role and the film was titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Like the original film and its adaptations, the 2023 film will also be a musical with music and original songs written by Neil Hannon. While there is no specific reason for the delay of the film, everything is set to make it worth the wait.
