Divorce hits different for everyone. But Kelly Clarkson is proving that she is using her divorce as a form of empowerment.  Clarkson has filed paperwork to change her name to Kelly Brianne amid her divorce proceedings from Brandon Blackstock. Clarkson initially filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. Paperwork was initially filed in June 2020.  In the paperwork for the name change, Clarkson stated that her “new name more fully reflects who I am.” The name is a combination of her first and middle name.

How Kelly Clarkson’s name change influences her future

The pair have been in the middle of an ongoing divorce battle ever since the initial filing. While the two share two children, River Rose, 7, and Remington, 5, the pair have had ongoing negotiations about both their professional and personal relationship. Blackstock has neglected to move out of their Montana home that Clarkson won ownership over and Blackstock has filed a $1.4 million lawsuit against Clarkson over the alleged unpaid commission on her “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and “The Voice”.

Because so, it comes as no surprise that Clarkson is wanting to move forward in any and every way possible. While her daytime talk show has now been running for three seasons and carries her current name, fans are bound to welcome whatever change may arise from it.

For some, a name may just be part of a divorce. But for someone like Clarkson, it has allowed her to take control of herself and her own identity again. And being that she is someone in the spotlight who has garnered so much fame and attention from her name, it’s admirable that she is putting herself first to heel. That is the definition of girl power.
