Throughout Project Runway, Chasity Sereal seemed to be filled with both gratitude and fortitude to rise to the occasion. Appreciating that she was not only fulfilling her dream but also standing tall as an example for others, her fashion designs captured elegance, intrigue, and power. Although she fell short of the Project Runway title, she has set herself a path for success.

Looking at the Project Runway finale collections, Chasity’s looks were different from the others. While the judges appreciated the intricacies and elegance, her aesthetic told a story that needs another chapter. How the next page unfolds remains to be seen.

Culturess spoke with Chasity Sereal about her Project Runway experience.

When asked about the theme of her Project Runway finale collection, Chasity said, “The title of my collection was called ” Rebellious Reflection”…a story of “The Black Sheep that Blooms”. This collection was a love letter to my younger self. She wasn’t confident, she didn’t fit in. She second-guessed herself and needed approval from others. Until one day she stared at her reflection and said “You are GREAT. The world needs your creative voice. Your gift is unique!” From then on, she stepped into her magic and changed the game!”

That willingness to own her magic and desire to change the game is key to her future success. Chasity shared that “this opportunity has definitely changed me as well as my career in many great ways.” But, it is more than just success within the industry. There is another element to her willingness to be slightly vulnerable in her achievement.

Specifically, Chasity periodically mentioned how she wanted to be a strong example for her daughters. When asked, the fashion designer said, “I am hoping that others will be inspired by my story…Inspired to keep pushing and never give up. Social media has a way of making everyone appear “together” or “perfect” when in reality, a lot of people are struggling. Whether it’s mentally, physically, or financially. I want people to know that sometimes, it’s okay not to be okay. Acknowledge those emotions and heal from them.”

While social media has both peaks and valleys, the reality is that crossing the divide is a strength, In some ways, the same can be said for Chasity’s designs. Although some of her looks epitomized high fashion, Chasity said “There is definitely a way for me to crossover into more luxury streetwear while still keeping my signature intricate details.”

As she reflected on her Project Runway experience, Chasity shared her favorite look. Specifically, she said, “The look that I am most proud of is Avant-Garde! That piece was definitely art in motion!”

In contrast, there is a look that should like to re-design. She said, “The look that I would like to do over is the unconventional dress, if I had to start over, I would’ve taken the small intricate details away (which took up a lot of time) and utilized my time better to fully complete the look.”

Now that the competition has finished, the future looks bright for Chasity. She shared, “I’m currently in the middle of prom season and I will also be creating a bridal capsule collection to debut this summer. I am also planning on hiring a full team to help the Chasity Sereal brand. I would like to open up my own showroom one day soon!”
