Doogie Kamealoha MD: Renewed for season two at Disney+

Disney+ has officially renewed Doogie Kamealoha MD for a second season. Doogie Kamealoha MD, while a reboot of ABC Network’s Doogie Howser, has carved out space for itself as a fresh and comedic show in its own right.

The show follows Lahela, a genius teenage doctor, her family, and her best friend, Steph. Doogie Kamealoha MD works well in balancing Lahela’s work at the hospital, where her mother is also her boss, and her home life, including her family, friends, and boyfriend Walter.

Although Lahela may have the most adult experience in a career compared to others her age, Lahela also experiences uncertainties regarding her place in the world and if she had grown up too quickly.

Season 1 portrayed the hardships of balancing life as a teenager and a career as a doctor, all while trying to keep Lahela’s friendships and romance alive.

However, Lahela was not the only one who had plenty occurring. Her family and Steph all play prominent roles in the overall story. Lahela’s mother, Clara, is a dedicated doctor with plans on how to improve the hospital. Meanwhile, toward the end of the first season, it appeared that Steph’s crush on Lahela’s brother Kai might be leading somewhere after all.

As for where season 1 left off, Lahela’s work as a doctor will continue, but she had to say goodbye to Walter, who would be going on a surf tour in Australia for the summer. It also appeared that Kai may have taken an interest in farming, hinting at a possible future career for him as well. Finally, Clara also received the promotion to Chief of Staff.

Season 2 is open to many possibilities regarding what the future has in store for Lahela, her friends, and her family. Doogie Kamealoha MD has a heart in its main characters and storylines while maintaining comedic plots. There is plenty to be explored as the series proceeds.
