Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announced the birth of their first child together on Friday. The child was born via surrogate. The news comes after Priyanka faced scrutiny for having removed “Jonas” from her Instagram handle to what many believe was leading to a divorce announcement. With such happy news coming from the couple, it shows the true girl power Priyanka has and has proven in keeping her self-identity online and in the industry.

Girl Power: Priyanka Chopra

The couple has been married for three years and had previously expressed interest in children through previous interviews. They had not announced that they were expecting, however.

Because of that, it is understandable that Priyanka touched on the attention that came with her social media changes and being in the spotlight, through her Vanity Fair cover story. In it she said:

"“It’s a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that’s behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate.” It’s just a professional hazard,” she continued. “Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that.”"

By speaking up to the attention she got, Priyanka gave strength to her individual power. She reminded people that she is much more than her “star power” and the actress, and “celebrity figure” that she is known for. While she never clarified why she changed her Instagram handle, she did not have to. She showed that she controlled her narrative far beyond social media. That is girl power!
