Taylor Swift’s albums dominated 2021 but where is Lover?
2021 was a huge year for Taylor Swift. Not only did her music dominate the airwaves but her name was on everyone’s lips. Despite that, Swift handled everything with grace and poise especially in her much-deserved revenge on Scooter Braun.
No revenge is sweeter than showing your enemy how successful you can be. For Taylor, that came in the form of possessing four spots on the best-selling album of the year list. In 2021, both “Fearless” and “Red” (Taylor’s Version) made the list. In addition, her two surprise albums, “Folklore” and “Evermore” also made the cut.
For fans, this should come as no surprise since Taylor put in a lot of hard work for these albums. If that wasn’t enough, she managed to make albums that were over a decade old popular again. She is such a keen businesswoman and knows exactly how to make fans fall in love with her all over again.
Speaking of love, one album that didn’t cut was “Lover.” The album remains the biggest mystery of her entire catalog. When will the album finally be given the recognition it deserves and how can we help push the album into the list of the top-selling albums?
Will Lover ever be considered one of Taylor Swift’s masterpieces?
Looking back at the Billboard lists from 2019 and 2020, it’s honestly a little shocking to see how low Taylor Swift was on Billboard’s album list. In 2020, “Lover” only ended up at #9 on the list, barely making it into the top 10. As for the year it was released, “Lover” landed at spot #1 which isn’t surprising as it was Taylor’s return to music after a 2-year hiatus.
However, since then, we’ve barely heard a whisper about “Lover.” It’s finally time to see “Lover” get her day in the sun. Not only is this Taylor’s first album outside of Big Machine Records, but it’s also her first album where she came into herself. At this point, Taylor had begun dating Joe Alwyn and their relationship was a major inspiration for this album.
Additionally, the album featured some light, fun, and happy songs. As for Taylor’s future album, she would take a darker and more serious tone. Despite that, her songwriting has remained sharp, and “Lover” seems to embody that as some of the lines are just gorgeous.
Even so, the major reason why “Lover” doesn’t get recognized nearly as much as it should is because of Taylor. Unsurprisingly, her releasing both her version of previous albums and “Folklore” and “Evermore” pushed her into an entirely new realm. Not only is she known for being a pop sensation but rather finally getting the respect she’s always deserved.
Nevertheless, there’s no reason why everyone should be so quick to forget the “Lover” era. In 2022, it’s time to finally show that “Lover” is as incredible as Taylor’s recent efforts. Whether it be buying a physical copy of the album, tweeting about it, or streaming it, “Lover” has more than enough bops to justify it finally being appreciated.

It’s truly frustrating to see how much “Lover” is being overlooked as one of Taylor’s works. The album was a visual masterpiece, features some of Taylor’s most beautiful lyrics, and gave us one of her most romantic songs in “Lover.” While underrated isn’t a word most people would use to describe Taylor Swift, “Lover” deserves that title.
Ultimately, it’s doubtful that we’ll see a resurgence in the “Lover” era unless Taylor decides to go on tour. With the way this new wave of COVID is hitting the world though, it seems unlikely. It’s incredibly frustrating as getting to scream sing “You Need To Calm Down” with Taylor would be iconic.
