Legacies should spend more time on werewolves

The Super Squad shows numerous supernatural species as friends and working together. But, moving forward, Legacies should spend more time on werewolves.

Unlike either predecessor, Legacies has spent most of its time as a witch-centric series; however, season 4 has been changing that with Hope and Lizzie’s transitions. Still, although the series may be leaning more into vampires, that does not mean it can not also develop its werewolf plotlines.

Although Josie left searching for ways to save Hope, Finch stayed behind. Jed’s injury left the pack temporarily without an Alpha, and with the werewolves looking for a leader, Finch stepped up to fill the void, at least until Jed had recovered.

The fight over Alpha has been acknowledged before, back when Rafael wanted to secure Landon a spot at the Salvatore School. However, even though three significant characters have been werewolves, the series has not done enough with them.

Rafael spent some time stuck in his wolf form, but he did not have enough to do story-wise. Although being a werewolf brought Rafael to the Salvatore School, he did not have substantial storylines toward being a werewolf or otherwise.

Jed, however, has shown he loves being the pack’s Alpha. Unfortunately, he has spent most of his time being the Alpha of a pack that barely manages to be background characters. Jed shows how much he cares about the other werewolves, but none of them are as significant in the span of the plot, so their relationship is not as centralized.

The way Jed triggered his curse has yet to be revealed as well, even if he did speak with Kaleb about how it emotionally affected him.

As for Finch, stepping up into a leadership position is a chance for her to become a more significant part of the story outside of her romance with Josie. Although Legacies has shown Finch’s friendships with Jed and Ethan, leaning into Finch’s identity as a werewolf could help boost her into becoming something more.

Even though werewolves can only fully transform on full moons, they still have enhanced abilities that should be useful and highlighted. However, this is also an element that Legacies does not use enough regarding Hope. Hope had triggered her werewolf curse in The Originals, but her wolf form has rarely been shown in the four seasons of Legacies since.

Although Hope’s witch side has always taken priority in previous seasons, her vampire side has become just as significant since her transition. Her werewolf side, however, continues to be the least utilized.

Werewolves may not have always been the most significant of the three main supernatural creatures in the previous shows, but their abilities and transformations were considered essential in storylines. Unlike The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, no one shows strong feelings of love or hatred toward being a werewolf.

The Salvatore School creates an environment different from anything the previous shows had given its werewolves. However, in doing so, it removes the struggle Tyler Lockwood had toward the painful transformation or the pride Hayley Marshall and Jackson Kenner found in leading a pack.

Legacies has pushed beyond witches, vampires, and werewolves with their extensive array of creatures and monsters. But werewolves should get the chance to shine every once in a while too.
