6/5. Kelly Olsen and Alex Danvers

Continuing the Supergirl theme, Alex and Kelly’s journey during season 6 of the show was wonderful to watch, and their wedding was a highlight of queer TV for the year.

During season 6, both Alex and Kelly finally got to have everything they wanted, both together and separately. For Alex, that included adopting their daughter Esme and becoming the mother she’d wished to be since season 3 of the show. For Kelly, she stepped into her own as a hero, becoming Guardian after picking up the mantle her brother left vacant.

Seeing two queer women get everything they’d ever dreamed of (marriage, children, careers) was incredibly uplifting, especially in comparison to the storied history of lesbian characters being killed off after finally getting the happiness they sought. Seeing both Alex and Kelly subvert that terrible trope was the best ending the show could’ve given both them and the queer viewers watching.
