And Just Like That will work to bring Kim Cattrall back, an insider reports
And Just Like That isn’t done with Samantha Jones.
Because Kim Cattrall wasn’t interested in reprising her role as Samantha Jones on the reboot of Sex and the City, the producers of And Just Like That were forced to write her character off, moving her to London. Also included in Samantha’s move was a break-up of her friendship with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw Preston. Viewers of the new series don’t feel it’s the same without the catty, outspoken Samantha, and it seems the powers-that-be feel the same.
According to a report by Daily Mail, an insider close to the show has said that they have high hopes that Samantha will return for the second season of the series.
"“We have high hopes that by the time we begin filming the second season, Kim will have joined the show and Samantha Jones can make a triumphant return to the Big Apple.”"
And Just Like That will have a second season, according to source
The same source confirmed that an announcement will be made shortly about a second season for the series, but, because of Sarah Jessica Parker’s schedule, there will be a long hiatus between the first and second season. The insider went on to say “we have a lot of work to do to get Kim Cattrall back.”
"“Samantha Jones is one of television’s all time much loved characters and Kim is a phenomenal actress who brings her to life perfectly. She needs to come home, if not for us, but for the fans that adore her.”"
While the producers are leaving the door open for Cattrall to return to the role she made famous, she made it clear in a 2017 interview with Piers Morgan on BBC that she has no interest in playing the role again. In that same interview, she suggested that the role be recast.
If the producers are insistent on bringing Samantha Jones back to the fold, perhaps a recasting will have to happen. But the insider made it clear that they would be working on getting Kim Cattrall back. But with the animosity currently existing between Cattrall and Parker, it’s going to take a lot more than the olive branch Carrie will extend to Samantha at the end of the first season.
