Do you remember the life simulation game that first came out in the 2000s called The Sims? The game where you could have a family, go to college, have a rockstar life, and do it over and over again? The iconic game has had multiple irritations and versions for many systems. Now you can use AI (artificial intelligence) to automatically turn photographs into characters. Here is how.

How The Sims is evolving its gaming technology for its players

EA first filed a patent in April 2020 to integrate its AI technology into its Sims gaming series. The patent was not approved until October 2021. However, we now know the intent of the patent.

It was just revealed that the patent would allow players to upload pictures of themselves and convert them into Sims characters. This would allow for the most accurate and lifelike Sims characters.

As TechRadar reports:

"The patent states “the method comprises: receiving an input image of a reference subject; processing the input image to generate a normalized image; identifying a set of features present in the normalized image, wherein each feature in the set of features corresponds to a portion of a head or body of the reference subject”."

The team that was leading the creating was Igor Borovikov. Borovikov has experience being part of development teams in The Sims 4, The Sims 5, and The Sims Medieval. There are currently no examples of this technology out yet for the game though.

It is also not clear when this technology will take into effect.

Are you still using the original The Sims? Industry experts predict it will go out on a different version of The Sims 4 or a future The Sims 5.

We’ll keep gaming on these till then!
