When it comes to being underrated, most people don’t think of Taylor Swift. Rightfully so, as Taylor Swift is a dominant force. However, one of her most underrated eras has to be 2019’s “Lover” era.

The album was released at an unfortunate time. Released in the summer of 2019, the album could have had its chance to shine. However, with COVID changing the entire world just a few short months later, the album was given peanuts, and buried behind all of her releases since then.

We would eventually get two albums from Taylor in 2020: “Folklore” and “Evermore”. Then Taylor moved right into her re-recordings. She recorded “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)”. It is finally time that everyone gives “Lover” all the credit it deserves.

Even if there’s not a tour in 2022, “Lover” deserves a lot better: especially since “Lover Fest” was canceled. 2022 needs to be the year of “Lover” from Taylor and us as fans.

Here’s why Taylor Swift’s “Lover” should be atop your 2022 playlist.

Firstly, the major strike against “Lover” was that it was released right before COVID-19 hit. With that, the album didn’t nearly have the amount of attention and promo it deserved. As mentioned above, “Lover Fest” was canceled due to COVID-19. With the lack of live performances from Taylor to boot, the album fell by the wayside.

However, it’s the first album Taylor owns. This is her first record with Republic rather than Big Machine Records. It is only right for “Lover” to be listened to.

If that wasn’t enough, “Lover” has some of the best singles and music videos. In particular, the titular track of the album is just delightful. The lyrics are incredibly sweet and just talk about being so happy and in love with someone. Coupled with the adorable music video, there was no other title that could’ve worked for the album. It’s truly an album all about love, and that was such a nice change of pace for Taylor.

Speaking of music videos, this album didn’t just have one great music video. No, this era featured music videos from “ME! “, “The Man” , and “You Need To Calm Down.” All of these videos fit with the era’s aesthetic.

While songs like “Lover” and “Paper Rings” focus on romantic love, songs like “It’s Nice To Have A Friend” and “Soon You’ll Get Better” are more about family and friends. Even a breakup song like “Death By A Thousand Cuts” is lovely. Honestly, this whole album feels like it’s a big warm hug.

At this point, it seems like 2022 is going to be another insane year. It would only be right to finally revisit “Lover.” The album is light, fun, and the embodiment of a rainbow. Even if you’re not in love, the album can still resonate with you. Overall, “Lover” is easily Taylor Swift’s most fun and bright album, which is what we all need.
