Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming platforms. It just announced that Ed Sheeran broke a record that the platform had never seen before. His 2017 single, “Shape of You” surpassed 3 billion streams on Spotify. It is the most popular song on Spotify. While the single dates back to his third studio album Divide,  it is beloved as much as the album. Because so, here are the three most-streamed songs on the Spotify platform so far.

The most popular songs on Spotify are musically diverse.

Ed Sheeran topping the list comes as no surprise. He is a global superstar! His hit song, “Shape of You” took over the airwaves, and even Youtube.  When it premiered, it debuted at number one in over 34 countries and became the best performing song in 2017. In December 2018, the song had 2 billion streams. Now, the song has over 3 billion Spotify streams and counting.

The song that is closest to its record is “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd. The 2019 single hit the airwaves like a storm and became his fifth number one hit single.  It was part of his critically acclaimed album, After Hours. The song currently holds an estimated 2,697 billion streams on Spotify. Being that The Weeknd continues to be a successful artist, there is no doubt this number will rise.

Coming straight after on the list is Tone and I’s “Dance Monkey”. The song was released the same year. It took over the Australian charts first and then saw global success. It also became the first top-five hit solely written by a woman in over eight years. It currently has an estimated 2,437 billion streams on Spotify.
