Julie and the Phantoms first premiered in October 2020, and the musical series took fans by storm. After a year of waiting to see if Netflix would renew or cancel the show, the world finally got an answer. Sadly, Netflix has decided to cancel Julie and the Phantoms.

The series began with its lead character, Julie, only starting to get back into music after her mother’s tragic death. With the help of three ghosts, Luke, Alex, and Reggie, Julie finds her love of music again and starts a band with the three boys.

While Julie rediscovers her love of music, her ghostly bandmates enjoy being able to play their instruments and continue their performances. Luke, Alex, and Reggie also have their storylines outside of music.

Luke dealt with the guilt of leaving his parents behind after a fight was the last real conversation they had. His song “Unsaid Emily” played as Luke got the closure he needed with his family. Meanwhile, Alex starts a relationship with Willie, and Willie’s connection with the ghost world helps Alex understand what may be next for him.

Although Julie and the Phantoms played with the supernatural concept through Luke, Alex, Reggie, and Willie, along with ghostly enemies, the show was also about family, friendship, and love.

Unfortunately, considering the show’s cancellation, season one’s cliffhangers may never be answered. Still, given how the first season concluded, Julie does get to keep Luke, Alex, and Reggie in her life, something she had feared she would lose after the group’s final show, which was meant to be the how the boys handle their unfinished business.

Kenny Ortega, known for his work on the High School Musical franchise, Descendants trilogy, Dirty Dancing, and Cheetah Girls 2, also was at the helm of Julie and the Phantoms.
