Welcome to Riverdale Queer Watch, where we look out for the LGBTQ+ folks on The CW’s Riverdale each week. Whether it’s a snuff film or prom night, we’re watching.

Last week’s episode of Riverdale brought a mythical figure to town in the form of La Llorona who traded places with Toni to save Baby Anthony’s life.

This week saw another visitor arrive named Lou Cypher–the devil himself. Mr. Cypher was busy making the rounds in Rivervale stealing souls and preparing contracts. With the body count getting higher, the LGBTQ coverage is slim pickings, but we’ll dive into what little there was.

Riverdale Queer Watch: Kevin

The devil made a lot of house calls this week and Kevin was no exception. Amidst the opening of Reggie and Veronica’s new casino, Kevin met Mr. Cypher who immediately began to fawn over him and offered him a big career opportunity.

Suddenly, Kevin is belting “It’s Not Unusual” and Fangs is his boyfriend again–and manager! Kevin is so thrilled with his new reality that he doesn’t question a damn thing and immediately signs away his soul in order to maintain it.

As usual, while all the other characters’ stories on Riverdale saw a resolution with the devil, where they either regretted the deal made or outsmarted him somehow, we never saw Kevin again. This left a lot of questions about his current place within the series.

It remains to be seen whether his current state of affairs will be acknowledged in next week’s episode, including whether he and Fangs are boyfriends again. Based on precedent, however, I’m guessing Riverdale will continue to ignore Kevin and his storyline. But I’d love to be surprised.
