Legacies: Hope going full tribrid could open a world of opportunity
Legacies has been teasing the possibility of Hope becoming a full Tribrid. Although the concept has been hinted at before, Legacies may be leaning toward it being an inevitability. As much as Hope wishes to avoid this transformation, it may do many good things for the show as a whole if Hope were to transition.
Becoming a vampire means heightened emotions, and having Hope handle those while dealing with a transformation she would have rather avoided could mean plenty of angst in the story for Hope, more so than usual. However, if Hope were to transition, it would appear that the arc development would be for the initial sake of defeating Malivore. Hope would have to face the repercussions and aftermath of such a significant choice.
Hope had helped Josie return to herself when Dark Josie desired to Merge with Lizzie in season two. In return, Lizzie and Josie could help Hope face what being a full Tribrid means for Hope’s future. Hope, Josie, and Lizzie’s friendship has played an integral role in Legacies and should continue to be one of the most important relationships in the show.
Legacies could also introduce No-Humanity Hope, a story that would allow the show’s protagonist to become an antagonist. Usually, Hope plays the role of the hero. So to have Hope no longer be the savior would also give her friends a chance to step up.
Josie, Lizzie, and the Super Squad could have the opportunity to save Hope rather than the other way around. This would give the Super Squad higher stakes in the story, showing more of their abilities. They could work together to fight for Hope and bring about the return of their beloved friend.
Turning Hope into a full Trirbid also gives Legacies the ability to provide the series with a darker tone. The season 3 finale, “Fate’s A Bitch, Isn’t It?” has already begun to tease a darker story with Malivore stealing Cleo and using Landon’s body as a vessel. Although the lighter tone and humor give Legacies a unique feeling from its predecessors, a darker tone could also help the series grow.
The Originals had teased that Hope would be a potent witch. The witches of New Orleans had feared what Hope could grow up to be, and Dahlia had warned Klaus that just like Dahlia herself and Freya, Hope would come into enormous power. Legacies teased some of this power in the past, but with everything heightened, this could push Hope’s powers over the edge to become something far more dangerous than ever imagined.
A change to a full Tribrid could also trigger the return of Hope’s relatives Freya, Rebekah, and Kol, to help their niece adjust to her vampire side. This could be a natural way to bring the Mikaelsons, at least briefly, back into the fold.
Hope transitioning also has the potential to change her relationships with several characters. For example, Hope’s friends may all have separate reactions or responses to Hope as a vampire, and she may also view or treat them differently. However, this could also create relationships far more intense than what Legacies has portrayed up until this point.
Hope Mikaelson is already one of the most powerful supernatural beings, but to have access to her witch, werewolf, and vampire sides could make her even more dynamic than she already is. Of course, it may be challenging to create legitimate stakes for a character who may be impossible to kill. Still, storylines surrounding Hope discovering the full extent of her power could let Legacies become a greater force of a show.
As Hope is first Tribrid in The Vampire Diaries Universe, giving her access to all her abilities could allow for a world of new story opportunities to come to the forefront.
