2021 release: Bad Girls Never Say Die – Jennifer Mathieu
Did you love the movie Moxie on Netflix? Well, mark your calendar for the latest release from Jennifer Mathieu, author of the book of the same name that the popular film was based on.
Bad Girls Never Say Die is a gender-flipped reimaging of the classic S.E. Hinton novel The Outsiders, a story that explores the deep bonds between young women and the long-lasting impact of female friendship.
The story follows Evie Barnes, a self-described bad girl who does all the things that nice girls aren’t supposed to do like run around with boys from the wrong side of the tracks. But after she’s saved from a potentially disastrous situation by exactly the kind of girl she would have always dismissed and ignored before, she must recalibrate whether there are even good or bad girls at all.
The official synopsis describes the story as follows.
"Evie Barnes is a bad girl. So are all her friends. They’re the sort who wear bold makeup, laugh too loud, and run around with boys. Most of all, they protect their own against the world. So when Evie is saved from the unimaginable by a good girl from the “right” side of the tracks, every rule she’s always lived by is called into question. Now she must redefine what it means to be a bad girl and rethink everything she knew about loyalty. In this riveting story of murder, secrets, and tragedy, Jennifer Mathieu reimagines S. E. Hinton’s The Outsiders from a female perspective. Bad Girls Never Say Die has all the drama and heartache of that teen classic, but with a feminist take just right for our times."
Bad Girls Never Say Die is available on October 19.
