The final season of The Walking Dead features 24 episodes divided into three segments, and this week’s “Promises Broken” is the penultimate episode before the first mid-season finale. Generally speaking, the episode that comes before the mid-season finale is there to set up a story and The Walking Dead season 11 episode 7 does just that.

Here’s the synopsis of the episode from AMC: “Maggie and Elijah learn a new survival tactic from Negan. Eugene’s group clears walkers to pay their fines, while Yumiko interviews for an upper class job. Daryl learns more about Leah and the Reapers. Gabriel encounters a man of God.”

If you’re keeping track, based on that synopsis there are four different stories in “Promises Broken” and that means there’s a lot happening in the episode that will no doubt set up next week’s mid-season finale.

What is The Walking Dead season 11 episode 7 about?

It’s been a few weeks since we checked in with Yumiko, Ezekiel, Eugene and Princess at the Commonwealth. The last time we saw them, Yumiko had reconnected with her brother while her friends got themselves into trouble when Eugene convinced Stephanie to help him access the radio so he could contact Alexandria. In this week’s episode they are doing the time for their crime while Yumiko continues to explore the other side of the Commonwealth.

In last week’s “On the Inside” Maggie’s group learned about the Reapers when Daryl gave them the rundown as he, Carver and Leah searched the house where they were hiding. Now that they know what they’re up against, they need to get ready to fight and Negan has some ideas. It sounds like Gabriel might be on his own scouting mission.

And last but not least is Daryl. According to the synopsis he’s learning more about his new cohorts and that’s a good thing because it’s nearly impossible to read Pope. Does he suspect that Daryl is working against them, or does he trust the newest member of the Reapers? It’s hard to say. What’s clear, though, is that Daryl has a big target on his back and he needs to learn all he can if he’s going to survive.
