Star Trek: Discovery fans were not left out of Star Trek Day and were gifted a definitive date for the Season 4 premiere. I was nervous about this one since Paramount + promised a fall date for this year. With filming delays due to COVID I wasn’t sure they would be able to make a 2021 premiere date.

But rest assured, Star Trek: Discovery stuck the landing! They announced that season 4 will land on Paramount + on stardate November 18, this year (and check out that cool graphic).

Did we get a new trailer?

Sadly, the premiere date did not come with a companion gift of a new trailer. So we’ll have to live with the detailed one that was unveiled back in April (hey, it’s still a good one!).

But we’ll get to unpack all the action sooner than we thought, with the premiere episode only a few months away (and just in time for Thanksgiving viewing so you can turn all your in-laws into Trekkies).

Costumes and images

Sonequa Martin-Green as Captain Michael Burnham is back at the helm and Paramount + released an image of the seasoned captain in that new red uniform. She also looks composed and at-ease in the captain’s chair. It being a good sign of her embracing her well-deserved authority.

Side comment: still not a fan of the costumes on this series, I must say. I much prefer the classic cut of thread on Strange New Worlds, but maybe that’s just me.

Details for what the Star Trek: Discovery crew will be facing

The series description reads as follows:

"“Season four of Star Trek: Discovery finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.”"

Make of that what you will. It’s not like they haven’t faced threats before…

The rest of the cast includes David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker), Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), and Blu Del Barrio (Adira), Ian Alexander (Grey).

Still missing Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou, but keeping my fingers crossed her sole series based on Section 31 gets rolling.

The Star Trek: Discovery panel focused on the family dynamics between Rapp, Cruz, del Barrio, Alexander, included showrunner-executive producer Michelle Paradise, and was hosted by The Next Generation’s While Wheaton.

Since Star Trek: Discovery’s season 4 premieres just a month after New York Comic Con, I suspect that a new detailed and possibly a first-look will be unveiled there in October.
