Sarah MacLean’s Bombshell ignites the new Hell’s Belles series
Regency romance writer Sarah MacLean is back with the first book in a new series. Bombshell is the thrilling introduction to her new Hell’s Belles series and it is the story of known scandal Lady Sesily Talbot and the mysterious Caleb Calhoun.
Sesily and Caleb have been running in the same circles for years thanks to a family connection through Sesily’s sister, but when their paths cross one night they realize that even their darkest secrets can’t keep them apart.
Bombshell is a fun, witty Regency romance
With Bombshell, MacLean crafts witty, clever, memorable and utterly charming women who know what society thinks of them, and rather than dwell on it they embrace it. Sesily knows she’s a scandal and she leans into her reputation even more because she knows it’s what people expect from her. She doesn’t care what other people think. She’s self-assured and smart and capable, and she never walks away from a fight.
Caleb is strong and clever, and he has an agenda of his own. What I love about him is that he sees Sesily for who she is and he has no desire to change her. (Though in truth he would rather see her not put herself in danger) Caleb isn’t like many of the other men in his social circle. He values Sesily (and her sisters) for being strong and self-sufficient, even though it’s a highly unusual trait.
More importantly, though, this network of powerful women who are as much at home in London’s bars as they are the ballrooms are fierce.
They’re working to help the helpless, their desire to see justice fueled with every story of women being mistreated. They know that they’ve been given great opportunity afforded to them by wealth and titles and instead of resting on their laurels, they’re seizing them to save the day.
Sarah MacLean knows how to do Regency right. Her stories are fresh and full of adventure, with characters worth rooting for. If Bombshell is any indication, her new Hell’s Belles series is going to be a very fun ride.
