AMC renews Kevin Can F**k Himself for a second season
By Lacy Baugher
It’s official: Allison McRoberts will get another chance to off her schlubby, useless husband in the now-confirmed second season of AMC’s dark hybrid series Kevin Can F**k Himself.
The season 2 renewal follows a strong first season that AMC touted as the biggest series launch in the 14-month history of its streaming platform AMC+. And considering this is also a platform that gave fans early access to The Walking Dead episodes, that number feels like a pretty big deal.
Creator Valerie Armstrong is set to return, as is star Annie Murphy and the rest of the series’ season 1 cast, including Mary Hollis Inboden, Eric Petersen, Alex Bonifer, Brian Howe, and Raymond Lee.
“We’re so grateful to AMC for giving a home to our weird little show,” Armstrong said in a statement. “Creating the first season of Kevin Can F**K Himself and getting to tell this story has been the joy of my life. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be stuck in Worcester with Allison for another year.”
The show smartly deconstructs one of television’s oldest tropes: The Sitcom Wife, the effortlessly perfect spouse who is devoted to a husband who clearly doesn’t deserve her and who exists in the series primarily to serve as a punchline for his terrible and often openly misogynistic jokes.
Kevin Can F**k HImself spreads its story between two worlds: The bright multi-cam sitcom world where Kevin McRoberts reigns supreme and the darker single-cam reality of his wife Allison’s experience, where she struggles to figure out how to finally take the lead in her own life
The season 1 finale ended on a fairly significant cliffhanger, which saw the sitcom reality shatter wide enough to force an additional character to cross into the grittier prestige side. What happens next is surely anyone’s guess – but will undoubtedly be a wild ride to watch.
The eight-episode second season is slated to arrive in 2022 on AMC and AMC+.
