What’s new in August 2021 for Xbox Live Gold members?
Games with Gold members are definitely still a thing for Xbox, even if Microsoft has been hitting hard with Game Pass as of late. But if you’re still a subscriber to this monthly service, you have four brand new games to look forward to this month.
Below are the offerings for August and the dates they’re available to play:
- Darksiders III, August 1 to 31
- Yooka-Laylee, August 16 to September 15
- Lost Planet 3, August 1 to 15
- Garou: Mark of the Wolves, August 16 to 31
Xbox Live Gold August 2021 highlights
Darksiders III is the action RPG offering for August and will scratch your itch if you’re desperate to play a Souls-like game but not go as heavy as the Dark Souls series. Plus it harkens back to the days when things were less open world and more linear. Of course it’s not the best in the Darksiders series, but it’s still worth playing.
Next up is Yooka-Laylee, which will give players flashbacks to both Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. If you’re in the mood to play a colorful platformer that reminds you of your childhood Saturday mornings piled around the TV in the basement, trying to collect everything in every single level, this one is for you. Some of the controls are a little touchy at times and can be a little frustrating until you get the hang of them. Personally I have too many issues with the camera controls, but that’s personal preference. Give it a shot
Lost Planet 3 is a prequel for the Lost Planet series, so you won’t be lost if you jump into this one and haven’t played any of the others. Learn the story about Jim Peyton’s expedition to solve the global energy problem through semi-open world levels and third-person combat. It’s nothing special and the weakest in the series, like Darksiders III.
Last up is a blast from the past in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, which released back in 1999 (don’t think about how long ago that is) and is part of the Fatal Fury fighting game series. There’s not much to say about this one; it’s a standard fighter game from the late Nineties, so if that’s your cup of tea, you’re in luck!
