Jordan Peele is back, baby! On Twitter, the acclaimed writer, director, and actor announced his latest project with an ominous poster. Get ready for Nope!

To be clear: Absolutely no one knows anything about the plot of this movie. In fact, Peele’s post seems to have blindsided most everyone with this announcement. And with a title that represents how I feel about most horror films, it seems like we’re in for a really big treat.

The poster features a large, grey cloud sweeping over a plain. The cloud has sucked in what looks to be either the string of a kite or maybe just a celebratory decoration.

In the distance, we can see a brightly lit city or town with objects floating in the sky above it. Are those drones? Are people in there?

The possibilities are seemingly endless when all we know is that an evil cloud may be involved! Let me just say “nope nope nope” to that already.

Jordan Peele announces upcoming horror film Nope

Over the years, we’ve had our fair share of weather-induced horror movies. With The Happening and The Mist being recent examples of the trope. However, with a mind like Peele’s, it’s likely that people will be looking up at the sky with a little more trepidation for a while after the film releases. Plus the poster promises “a new terror”.

Peele has made a name for himself in the world of horror with his debut Get Out in 2017, followed by Us in 2019. Both films involved significant commentary on race, particularly the often tense relationship between black and white communities. It’s going to be fascinating to see what this film is about and if he’s able to really scare the pants off of everyone for a third time. Especially if it’s going to tackle social issues.

There are a couple of things we do know about the film. It’s going to star Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Panther), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens, Scream), and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Invincible). And it will debut in theaters on July 22, 2022.

Next. HBO Max is developing a series based on The Final Girl Support Group. dark
