The first trailer for Peacock’s buzzy adaptation of the bestselling YA thriller One of Us is Lying is here, and it’s guaranteed to make book fans happy.

Karen McManus’s story has some pretty extreme Pretty Little Liars vibes as it follows a group of five teens who find themselves stuck in detention together. And, naturally, they all slot into distinctly different “types”. There’s Bronwyn, the brain of the group; Nate, the rumored criminal; Cooper, the school’s star athlete; and Simon, the perennial loser who also happens to have created Bayview High’s most notorious – and vicious – gossip app.

But the thing is, not everyone is going to make it out of detention alive. And the four that remain? Well, they’re all about to become murder suspects and all their secrets are in serious danger of being exposed.

The trailer for Peacock’s One of Us is Lying gets the book’s vibes right.

Watch the trailer for yourselves below.

The series’ first season will be comprised of eight episodes. The show stars Marianly Tejada as Bronwyn, Cooper van Grootel as Nate, Annalisa Cochrane as Addy, Chibuikem Uche as Cooper, and Mark McKenna as Simon. Barrett Carnahan, Jessica McLeod, and Melissa Collazo round out the main cast.

McManus’s twisty storytelling style made the novel tons of fun to read and kept us guessing throughout. Bitchy Simon had plenty of enemies, as well as secrets of his own, and the mystery is fun to unravel. And unlike the aforementioned Pretty Little Liars, this story does have a clearly defined conclusion, though there’s nothing that says the first season will – or has to – tell the complete story of the novel. (That’s what season 2 is for, right?)

Should One of Us is Lying prove super successful, McManus did write a sequel of sorts called One of Us is Next. That story is also set at Bayview High, though it features a different set of characters and not much direct connection to this story.

There’s no release date as yet for the Peacock series, though the trailer says that the show will be “streaming soon,” whatever that means. Hopefully, that means “this summer” rather than, say, “this year”. Fingers crossed.

Next. Good Trouble is a spin-off series done right. dark
