The biggest opening weekend since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Marvel’s farewell to Black Widow has dominated the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film did incredibly well not only overseas but domestically as well.

Since the pandemic crippled the movie and theater business, things were uncertain for the latest MCU installment. Luckily for Disney, they were able to earn $80 million domestically, $78.8 million internationally and $60 million in home release sales. That’s a whopping $218.8 million globally! Way to go, team Widow!

Disney Plus kept up their hybrid model for the film so that fans are able to watch in the comfort of their home for $29.99. In a surprise move, the mouse house released streaming profits, which has not been done by them or any other streaming service for that matter. It will be interesting to see if other studios follow their lead and release their streaming numbers.

Speaking of the success of the film, Alan Bergman, the Chairman of Disney Studios Content, shared his excitement.

"“It’s incredible to see audiences enjoying Black Widow after two years without a new Marvel Studios film, and this spectacular opening weekend shows just how eager fans have been to see this beloved Avenger in her own story,” he said."

Black Widow gives fans one final chance to say goodbye

Not only did fans have to wait two years for a new MCU film – they had to wait ELEVEN years to see Natasha Romanoff in her own film. Far too long for the first female Avenger, no? It’s not like it wasn’t been asked for by fans.

They started petition like crazy, asking for Disney to make a solo Black Widow film. The results of the fans getting what they’ve been asking for years? They have been loving it! It’s disappointing that this is the final time we will see her story but at least we got one more ride, right?

That being said, the film could open the doors to other characters’ stories continuing in the MCU. No spoilers in this article, but it would be nice to see new heroes entering the fray, truly starting a new chapter for Marvel and its film properties. Also, not to go too deep into speculation, but there is an upcoming film that will open up the Multiverse – so there’s a chance this isn’t the last time we’ll see Agent Romanoff.
