Waiting for more Loki? Watch these Tom Hiddleston movies
Watch Tom Hiddleston in: Crimson Peak (2015)
In Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, Hiddleston plays the brooding and mysterious Thomas Sharpe who marries a young American aspiring writer (Mia Wasikowska) and takes her back to his crumbling manor where he lives with his sister (Jessica Chastain). It soon becomes clear that both Thomas and his sister and the house itself have many secrets.
Written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins, this beautiful period drama is intense, but not too scary for those who don’t typically enjoy horror movies. It certainly has its disturbing moments and is essentially a ghost story but the focus is on the story, but there is only one truly gruesome scene.
Set mostly in Victorian England, it has sumptuous costume and production design with dark colors and rich fabrics. It also stars Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver.
Hiddleston imbues Thomas with both vulnerability and a touch of madness. Thomas is, in many ways, a Bronte-esque Gothic romance anti-hero, as a man caught between his childhood attachment to his sister and his growing love for his bride. (It’s also another role of Hiddleston’s that has a dark-haired look similar to Loki’s.) If you like Jane Eyre or Rebecca, you’ll likely enjoy Crimson Peak.
