Watch Tom Hiddleston in: Kong: Skull Island (2017)

Hiddleston played former British soldier James Conrad in Kong: Skull Island. This installment in the King Kong franchise sees a team of soldiers and civilians end up stranded on an island filled with strange creatures while on a research mission to Skull Island.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the film is full of conflict and exciting action sequences. The screenplay by Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein, and Derek Connolly, is set in 1973 and the presence of the ongoing Vietnam War lingers underneath the surface of events.

The film’s large cast includes John Goodman, Jian Tian, Thomas Mann, John C. Reilly, and Corey Hawkins who you might recognize as Benny from this year’s In the Heights. Too often, these franchise films feel inspired but this one’s production and creature design mark it as one of the better from recent years.

Hiddleston is joined in this film by two other MCU cast members: Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, and Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson. In fact, Hiddleston’s banter with Larson is one of the highlights of the whole film.

Hiddleston proves himself as a capable action hero and James Conrad is a grounding force and voice of reason amongst the high tensions of the film.
