The Bold Type: Kat Edison, Editor-in-Chief

The series finale gave some closure to The Bold Type and its characters, while opening up new possibilities at the same time. Sutton and Richard reconciled, along with Kat and Adena, while Oliver took steps to rekindle his relationship with Jasper. One of those new possibilities included a last-minute switch of who would become the new Editor-in-Chief of Scarlet, once Jacqueline retired.

For the majority of season 5, we could see Jacqueline’s departure from Scarlet coming, and the obvious choice would’ve been for Jane to take over. Jacqueline had even started training Jane to take over in her absence before she decided to permanently leave the magazine. Initially, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not Jane could be the next Jacqueline.

Yes, she had the industry knowledge, but her people skills weren’t always the strongest. Jane finally realizes this in the series finale and turns down Jacqueline’s offer to become Editor-in-Chief. However, she has an idea of who would make the perfect replacement.

In a more poetic full-circle moment, Jacquline offers Kat the opportunity to become Scarlet magazine’s Editor-in-Chief. Kat, who had always inspired others by the work she did, whether it was managing social media at Scarlet or running for office, was the perfect replacement for Jacqueline.
